After picking up the speed to what Guy felt was right, he lowered his lance, having a feeling in his gut that this would be his moment. He gave a small breath just before the lance struck, adjusting the lance tip's position at the latest of moments to see it shatter with a resounding crack on Calum's shield. After seeing Calum fly off his saddle, Guy let himself breathe in again to fill his lungs with air to let out a triumphal cheer. Trotting his steed to slow down, Guy gave a short thanks to the heavens before taking off his helmet and turning the steed back towards Calum. Guy enjoyed the cheers of his fellows, but consentrated only in getting to Calum.
"You were a great opponent, for a moment there I thought you'd be the one to score the hit! It was just sheer luck I altered my form just before the impact!" Guy said to Calum, offering his hand at the same time for a shake.
He then turned to look at Sir Elad to give a small bow in appreciation of his claps.

Calum picks himself up dusting himself off bows formally to Guy as Guy did well and won. He bows next to his Lord and yet he doesn't say a word....as he remounts his horse and awaits his next turn.

Sire Elad nodded to Calum in return "Well done, both of you. Now move, the next joust is between Hermel and Rhowain". The old knight turns to the two mentioned "Take your places and get ready. Remember the right hold of the lance. If you saw Guy's form, imitate it. Now, to your places, unless you have questions"

Hermel reaches over to Rhowain and offers him a chubby hand, “ Being a total bastard, I don’t normally wish people good luck so not to fall off your horse.”

Rhowain shakes Hermels hand and sais "i`ll try not to hurt you, don`t worry" with a smile on his face and pats Hermels back while walking past him to get to his horse.

The two new opponents trotted their steeds to their places and Sir Elad nodded to Sir Perin. The young knight strode to between the two and eyes them as servants rushed to bring them their helmets, lances and shields. "Jousters, are you read?" he asked, and both young men nodded. "Well then, squires, JOUST!"
Rhowain was poorer with the lance, but he got an excellent start, last night's success fresh in his mind. He was an excellent horseman, having caught up with Guy despite a poor start in the race. His lance was aimed straight at the shield of his opponent, and he could already taste the leadership role. He would lead his friends on their first quest and return to Sir Elad with tales of bravery. The thunder of his horses hooves was deafening, the adrenaline intoxicating.
Hermel saw that Rhowain was confident and that his lance was well held and aimed. The ugly squire grinned, shifting his shield to better protect his body, preparing to take a blow, but then he saw his chance. Rowain's stance slipped for a second, and Hermel thrust his lance in, hitting Rhowain's helmet, spinning him out of the saddle and onto the ground to the cheer of the servants and men-at-arms. The two knights present also showed their appreciation, Sir Elad in a dignified applaud, Sir Perin in a more jubilant cheer. Servants rushed to Rhowain to help the squire up and inspect him, but besides a few bruises and bumps no damage had been done.
"Look like we have our finalists" Sir Elad said, looking from the triumphant Hermel to Guy.

"A good joust, Hermel. Congratulations." Guy said when the cheering had stopped. "you ready for the final round? Let's see who's the victor of the day!"
Having said that Guy went to get his horse from the other side of the jousting field. He mounted up and had his gear given to him. He put his helmet on, made sure it fit well, strapped his shield on his arm and checked his lance that it was in good condition. All this he did with a silent reverence, and when he was done, he uttered a small prayer trying to fight the nervousness that had suddenly taken over him, and moved into position signalling sir Elad that he was ready.

Hermel looks at Guy with grin. “ Why do we need to see who’s going to be the victor when its clearly going to be me!” Hermal raises his fat fist in the air after preparing his horse for another round of jousting. “I’m ready” He yells at the top of his lungs.

As the finalists took their places, Sir Elad once more walked between them and with a glance to each he established that they were ready for the final joust of the day. With one fluid motion he raised his hand in the air and let it drop, backing away. The two squires, as different as night and day, exploded towards each other.
Hermel and Guy both had a good start, their lances straight and steady, their shields held high. The jousters were very evenly matched to all in attendance and as the moment of contact came and a resounding crash was heard and yet both parties rode away, each on his horse.
Hermel turned around, elation foremost in his mind. He had stayed on his horse and while apparently so had Guy, he was ready for the next round. He let the broken lance fall to the ground and motioned for another, as he was taught by Sirs Elad and Perin. Then he turned his eyes on his opponent again and was astonished to see him cheer. He quickly turned his look at the broken shaft of his lance and was shocked at what he saw. The lance was intact! The Guy's lance was broken, having shattered on impact, but his own must have glanced off of Guy's shield! He had been defeated, but only by the slightest margins.

At the moment of impact Guy felt the lance of Hermel hit his shield, yet he forced himself to focus on his own form and aim. This had a satisying result, when Guy saw and felt his lance shatter on Hermel's shield. But what of Hermel? He was still in his saddle, and Guy had felt the lance beating on his shield. He had a quick look behind him, and felt joy spring from within. Hermel's lance was still intact! Guy had won the day!
Guy dropped his lance, and let out a cheer of triumph. He steered his mount around while cheering, and got closer to Hermel. "A damn fine joust Hermel, damn fine! I thought that I had lost when I felt your lance hitting my shield!

Hermel steadies his horse after the match. Not fully realizing what had gone on he looks at his lance with a with a huge grin. " I ....lost?" he notices the lance still intact. As disappointed as he was his mood quickly changes when he saw his friend celebrating his win. " Yes Guy, it was a damn fine joust. Very close" Hermel hold out his fist for a victory fist bump.

After the cheers calm down, Sir Elad calls the squires to him. The two squires knocked off lead their horses while the last two combatants ride theirs. When they've gathered in a semi-circle, the elderly marshal spoke up. "All of you did well, but one of you is first among equals. Guy proved the finest though, and I hereby nominate him as the leader of the mission" he then gave Guy a nod of approval and turned to Sir Perin. "Sir Perin, give them their orders" he ordered and the younger knight nodded and turned to address the squires as the elderly knight walked off to see to other tasks.
Sir Perin looked at the victor of the joust and grinned "Sir Elad already filled you in on the mission last night, but ironically you weren't present. Funny how things work out, isn't it?" he looked at all four squires and then back to Guy "I assume the three of you filled him in, but just in case and as a refresher, I'll go through it once again"
Sir Perin repeated what had been said about the mission last night at dinner. After he had finished, he addressed Guy "And now, noble victor, your first leadership decision. Will you leave right away or wait until tomorrow morning?"

"I have never heard of this town called Imber, but it matters not. We shall travel there and get rid of the monstrosity whatever it is for you milord."
"I believe we have all earned a good night's rest after this exhausting and competitive day. We shall leave in the morning after a hot meal and a night's sleep." "If it is good by you, of course, milord" Guy added and gave a small bow to Sir Elad before turning to his horse and hopping on its back.

Sir Perin nodded "Very well, tomorrow it is. Imber is about half a day's ride, so use the rest of the day to prepare, eat, study, have fun, however you feel like. You all did very well today, both Sir Elad and I are pleased" he took a pause and then asked "Anyone have questions they'd like answered?"

"What do you think the big and horrible monster is? Any tips for the journey? Better be overprepared than to face overwhelming odds..." Guy asked Sir Perin with a serious face and sincere eyes. "I do not wish to lead my friends to peril." He continued.
