"I do not subvert anyone and pray tell where did I talk back to my master? Or was in anyway disrespectful? I earned my food this day my brother did not. But in the battles to come I will not punish my brother for failure in a fight by depriving him of his strength or his will to fight. For his weakness punishes not just him but me. Instead I will feed him and make him stronger help him learn from his mistakes with guidance and work."

Sir Perin shook his head "You misunderstand Calum. I did not mean that you talked back to Sir Elad, but should you take that argument that 'you can choose what to do with your food' to him especially to subvert a punishment he has ordered, that would be unwise. Of course, you are free to do what you wish in that aspect." the knight put his hand on the squire's shoulder "Your loyalty to your friend is admirable and the mark of a great knight-in-training, but your steadfastness blinds you to your options. Think about what I've said, and act as you see fit. Sharing in your comrade's punishment would not serve him, quite on the contrary. Who would it serve if instead of one hunger weakened squire there would be two?"

"If I've a loaf of bread and him none because I was successful and he was not. Are you saying I should eat the bread and watch him grow weaker and I would grow stronger. I would be forced to defend him as he could not defend himself or watch him die. I will always split my bread with my brothers and we will grow stronger together. Then his arm can protect me as mine will him. "

Perin sighed "That is precisely what friends do for one another. However, pray tell how you will share bread that you will not have?"

"Would you two please stop talking of me as a failure? Today I got careless and failed in the task yes, but I'm not a failure. I can manage one night without eating no problem, and tomorrow I shall show you all who I truly am on the training field!"
Guy said in protest, even though Calum clearly had stopped talking already.

Perin's face grew sterner "Easy there squire, you're talking to a knight. As for being a failure, no one to my knowledge has insinuated that. If failing in one task during your training would make you a failure you would have all been sent away in dishonor a long time ago. It is not your skill at arms that I question, but judging by your words your intellect is in doubt"

"I meant no disrespect of course... I'm just in no mood for clever wordplay or smart warnings, and you might not wonder why."
"If you'll excuse me, I will continue to the kitchen now, so that you all will get your deserved supper" Guy finished with a slight bow, and started for the kitchen.

Rhowain had followed others to the stables, not sure what to say. But the argumet of Guy and Sir Perin got Rhowain to speak
"Brothers you are bofth right. Sure, Guy failed but that dosn`t make him a failure. We all have our good and bad days. I`m sure Guy will have his chance to prove himself to be a great figher that we all know he is, many times in the future . And as for the punsihment i feel that it is nessessary to show us the conseuquenses of our carelessness"
He closed his horses stable and started walkin thowards the exit. "Now lets go to eat,I`m starving"

“Bread? Why do we keep mentioning bread and how come none of it is in my stomach?"Hermel shuts the gate to his horse’s stall and waddles over to the group. "I need bread and ale and mutton and…ullllggrhhh” he stops mid-sentence as his jaw drops and large amounts of drool come dribbling out the corners of his mouth.

After setting their horses in for the night, the group left. The three successful squires went to their quarters for a moment of rest and cleaning up before the dinner. After they were ready, they had maybe half an hour before the dinner in their common bedroom.
Guy headed for the kitchen where the cook, a large man with a striking resemblance to a badger, put him to work preparing the dinner. "S'I heard that ye dinnae do so well tonight lad. Dinnae worry, even Sir Perin failed once or twice in his training days. Ye're nae perfect laddie, better ye fall on yer arse here than on a field with bloody Saxons milling about" the cook said with a strong accent and patted Guy on the back.

"It is true what you say, but it still cannot wipe away the shame of underestimating an opponent." Guy replied with his mind still on the matter. "But whatever, serves me right and next time I'll beat those three!" He finished after snapping out of his thoughts by the pat the cook gave him.
"So, where do we start, those guys out there need to eat."

"Fer all things their season lad. Wisdom will come when ye need it, skill too. Ye have an admirable spirit fer a squire, ye'll be a fine knight one day. 'Less ye make a habit of picking fights with rocks that is" the large man winked and pointed at a pile on onions "Now, those dinnae peel themselves nor jump inta the pot less ye make 'em"

Calum stays silent until they reach their quarters and he turns to Guy. "as you feel that this isn't such a harsh punishment I will leave you to your own devices and eat my supper. I grow tired this day of second guessing my self or my intent." Calum walks to supper his mood dark

Hermal walks beside Calum on their way to supper . Looking around to make sure Pernin was not within earshot he leans in “ Sir Guy’s punishment is unfair. I don’t see the logic behind it. My father would have never denied me food if when I failed tasks. He believed food was fuel that fed the fire in my belly. If I had failed at a task he would make me do it over and over until I got it right.”
